this can be achived by editing the *.vmx file and adding:

time.synchronize.continue = "FALSE"
time.synchronize.restore = "FALSE"
time.synchronize.resume.disk = "FALSE"
time.synchronize.shrink = "FALSE"
rtc.startTime = 1199206860
time.synchronize.tools.startup = FALSE
